About the Unusual or War Time Line
At the advent of World War II not unlike many businesses and industry in America the Nelson McCoy Pottery Company was asked to convert its factory to the war effort. As a result several unusual or war time items arose.
McCoy started producing a line of Ceramic Land Mines for the military. Being Ceramic in nature made these mines difficult for the enemy to detect while still maintaining their deadly effectiveness.
Other Unusual Items include old "Gin Jars" many found between the walls of the old Nelson McCoy Sanitary Stoneware Company. Poultry Fountains, Foot Warmers, and Butter Jars are some of the more unusual items produced in the late 1920s.
NOTE: We have amassed a collection of images of many of the known Unusual or War Time pieces below, however we are always looking for more. If you know of one that is not listed, please let us know by contacting us at webmaster@mccoypottery.com
